With the fifth victory in a series and a great Tempofußball 1899 Hoffenheim has set itself in the top group. The team of coach Julian Nagelsmann defeated 1: 0 (1: 0) in the racy duel of the two surprise teams Hertha BSC on Sunday and climbed to the third table place after the ninth day.
Young national player Niklas Süle scored a powerful header for the still undefeated Kraichgauer in the 31st minute. Before 28 015 spectators in the not sold-out Sinsheimer Rhein-Neckar-Arena tore the series of previously four times undefeated Berliners. The Hoffenheimers are five-in-a-row so far only 2008/09 under coach Ralf Rangnick, when they were surprisingly autumn champions.
The guests took the initiative, even if they were lucky, when Fabian Lustenberger rescued on the goal line after a Süle header (3.). Hertha coach Pal Dardai had to convert his defense after the failures of Sebastian Langkamp and Marvin Plattenhardt. The four-chain team were now the retired Patrick Weiser, John Brooks, Lustenberger and Peter Pekarik - and they were well-occupied from the start. For the first time ever, Allan played the Brazilian loan from Liverpool.
With the self-confidence of a top team, the Hertha came on and had the first chance (14) through a 20-meter shot from Allan. But then came the TSG and whirled the Berliners together. Lukas Rupp was the only player to beat Rune Jarstein. Shortly thereafter, Pavel Kaderabek hit the bar. And then Süle headed for a free-kick of the powerful Kerem Demirbay head 1: 0.
Jarstein directed mehrfach
In this urge, Rupp had almost doubled two minutes later, but Jarstein was in the way again.
The duel between the goalkeepers Sandro Wagner (four Saisontore for Hoffenheim) and Berlins Vedad Ibisevic (six), who each competed against their former clubs, won Wagner - by points. The attacker was much more involved in the game of his team than Ibisevic. He had his first conspicuous scene shortly after the break, when he came free in the penalty area, but aimed at Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann.
Wagner could have put the score down another goal after 71 minutes. In a counter-attack over Rupp the ex-Darmstadt shot Jarstein from a short distance - and afterwards kicked out of loud frustration several times against the post. Andrey Kramaric (88) also failed. Dardai still brought Salomon Kalou, but even Hertha could not help big up against consistently convincing Hoffenheimer.
